Some Nigerians have slammed the media aides of President Bola Tinubu over the social media video used to appeal to Nigerians amidst the nationwide hunger protest.
Naija News reports that a Senior Special Assistant to the President, O’tega Ogra, shared the video via his X handle on Wednesday afternoon, which was subsequently shared on Tinubu’s official page.
In the 2-minute and 3-second video, Tinubu admitted to the current economic hardship and urged Nigerians that “as we navigate through these temporary pains, please remember that every effort is being made to ensure a stable and prosperous future for all Nigerians.
“Our collective strength and unity will pave the way for a brighter tomorrow. We are in this together, and we will overcome.”
However, there was a twist later at 10:18 pm as Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, posted the video, stating it was an old video.
He wrote, “Trending video of President Tinubu is an old video. A trending video of President Tinubu which came out on Wednesday is not a new video. It’s a clip from the broadcast he made last year.
“President Tinubu has not made any other public statement since his last broadcast on Sunday.”
The confusion among the presidential aides sparked reactions among many Nigerians.

@Jerry_Research1 wrote: “Am surprised both you Bayo and Ajuri still has a job. Both of you are the weapons fashioned against the President. One if not both of you has to be a spy. Very reckless and shameless people. You makes supporting the President tiring and embarrassing…. Bad image makers”

@firstladyship wrote: “Bayo Onanuga, Ajuri Ngelale, Dada Olusegun & everyone in Tinubu’s media team are a bunch of damn failures. Those guys will continue to drag the name “Nigeria” through the mud. Men without a modicum of shame in their bone. For how long will they continue to mess around.”
@firstladyship wrote: “Bola Tinubu’s account posted it. The Presidency posted it as well. There is a silent war between Bayo Onanuga & Ajuri Ngelale, & it’s affecting their messaging. Bayo will post, Ajuri will deny. Ajuri will post, Bayo will deny. Their untidiness is getting out of hand.”
@Harmless12345 wrote: “Tinubu posted a video on his Tweeter handle, addressing protesters. Bayo Onanuga came out and said the video is fake and should be disregarded. Should we believe Tinubu or Bayo? I suggest we wait for Ajuri’s corrigendum.”
@timotebz wrote: “I’m hoping everyone remembers when Ajuri threatened brimstone and fire against any media aid involved in any media activity he didn’t personally approve, made me laugh so hard because I knew incompetence didn’t let him see how incompetents operates.”
@armani_ebuka wrote: “They are not even trying to smoothen the stress of their supporters defending the government must be really tiring.”
@omotoyosiwrites wrote: “MR Bayo you are a veteran journalist and Ajuri is a brilliant one too yet we have a breakdown of communication from your team. You all should fix this or is this a kind of competition between the media team of the President?”
