France Manager Didier Deschamps Takes Dig At Jose Mourinho

France Manager Didier Deschamps Takes Dig At Jose Mourinho

Didier Deschamps has taken a dig at Jose Mourinho, after the Roma manager put the pressure on the France boss ahead of Euro 2020.

Whilst there’s already plenty of pressure on the Euro 2000 winners, who failed in the final five years ago on home soil, Mourinho upped the pressure earlier this week.

The former Tottenham Hotspur manager claimed anything but winning the whole tournament would have to be seen as failure for Deschamps, something he hasn’t taken well.

“I thought the same thing about his Tottenham team, but it did not end up happening like that…,” the France manager told Telefoot in a direct dig at Mourinho.

“Yes, we are favorites due to the status of world champions.

“It is not a pressure, it is the reality, we will not flee the debate on the presence of France among the favorites of this Euro.

“Obviously, I have a very important attacking potential, but it’s not just that.

“There is a balance to be found, through adjustments. I hope to have the ball as much as possible, but there are times when we won’t have it, and we will have to keep our strength.”

Whilst Mourinho can usually be seen as being antagonistic, his belief that France not winning the Euros would be seen as failure didn’t seem to be.

“France could make an A team, B team and C team because in this moment they have an incredible number of top players,” the two times Champions League winner told the Sun.

“When you have Kylian Mbappe on your side it is very difficult not to win.

“He is one of these players that wins matches and scares opponents.

“Mbappe goes with everything to try to prove to everyone that after Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, he is the next best.

“Didier Deschamps knows what he wants. They are the world champions. They are the last runner-ups in the Euros.

“I think less than reaching the final, for them is nothing. I don’t believe Deschamps reads or listens to the outside… I think he just knows what he wants.

“…I cannot see any weakness. If I had to say one team to win it, I will say them – because the group of players is fantastic.

“They have to win it. If not, it is an unsuccessful Euros.”

Mourinho’s failure to win at Spurs could follow the rest of his career if he now fails to be successful at Roma and beyond.
