Fernandinho Breaks Protocol To Make Fan’s Day Amid Trophy Presentation

Manchester City captain Fernandinho broke protocols to give a teenage brain-tumour survivor a special moment during Sunday’s Premier League trophy presentation.

Jake Tindale, a 15-year-old City fan, was diagnosed with a brain tumour last year and underwent surgery to remove it over Christmas. He was asked by the club to be a special guest on Sunday and to hand the trophy to Fernandinho.

However Jake’s family revealed on Twitter that the Brazilian made the day even more memorable. Instead of taking the trophy next to the stand and walking over to the team with it – as is protocol – Fernandino asked Jake if he wanted to walk over to the celebrating squad carrying the trophy.

An incredibly classy gesture from the 36-year-old Man City legend.

Jake’s family shared a picture of the moment on Twitter, as Fernandino walked back to the squad who seemed caught between beckoning Jake over and pointing out to their captain that he’d forgotten the trophy.

“Do you want to bring the trophy to us rather than me take it over to the team? It would be more for special for you,” Fernandinho reportedly said to the young fan.

The 15-year-old was asked to be a part of City’s presentation ceremony alongside Dr Jon Bell, the son of club legend Colin Bell who died in January.

Jake was informed of the invitation via a surprise video message from Pep Guardiola ahead of the Everton game.

“You will be the guy – you will present the trophy to Fernandinho, before he lifts it to the sky,” promised Guardiola beforehand.

However what the City boss didn’t know at that time was that Fernandinho was going to get Jake right in the middle of the team’s celebrations, before the captain lifted the trophy.

A moment never to forget for the City supporter.
