Her father worked in a paper mill while her mother taught in elementary school.
During childhood, Carrie began performing at church and in local talent shows. A local fan encouraged Carrie’s family to take her to Nashville at age 14 to audition for a record contract. Capital Records was interested but later declined. After graduating from high school Carrie initially walked away from her dreams of being a singer.
